Kindle highlights parser

Turn My Clippings.txt into tidy highlights grouped by book, without the duplicates.

Drop My Clippings.txt here

It's in the documents folder when your Kindle is plugged in over USB. It's read on your device and never uploaded.

Getting My Clippings.txt

Connect your Kindle to a computer with a USB cable and open it like a drive. The file is in the documents folder: documents/My Clippings.txt. The Kindle phone and desktop apps don't create this file.

Duplicates and notes

Kindle keeps every version when you adjust a highlight. When two highlights in a book overlap and one contains the other, only the longest is kept. Notes are attached to the highlight they were written on, and bookmarks are skipped.

Nothing leaves your device

The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. Your highlights stay on your computer until you download them.

Other languages

English Kindles are read fully. In other languages the highlights still come through, but page, location and date may show as written or be missing.
