Post to text & citation

Pull the plain text out of a post and cite it in MLA, APA or Chicago.

Citation styles

APA 7 uses the first 20 words as the title. MLA 9 quotes the whole post. Chicago 18 quotes up to 160 characters and is formatted as a note, since Chicago suggests citing posts in notes rather than the bibliography.

Check the name

APA wants the person's real name before the handle. We use the display name and turn it into Last, F. when it looks like a person's name, so check it before you hand anything in.

Dates and times

Dates and the Chicago time stamp use your own time zone, the same as X shows you.

Pasting

Copy keeps the italics, so citations paste correctly into Word and Google Docs. Plain-text editors get the same citation without them.
